Gillian Kantor
Producer

Gillian Kantor joined the Salt + Light team in December 2003 while working as a reporter and youth editor for The Catholic Register newspaper. In 2005, she made the move to S+L as a full-time producer and is excited to do her part in sharing the millions of stories that Canada’s Catholic community has to tell.

In working for S+L, Gillian’s eyes have been opened to and her interests piqued in a number of aspects of the Catholic faith. The lives of the Saints were especially opened up for her on a pilgrimage through Germany and Italy that led her through the towns, homes and churches of a number of saints and eventually became the documentary, Saints: Gospel Artists.

With a degree in English from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as shelves overflowing with books in her own home, Gillian is happy to produce and host Word for Word, S+L’s book show. Taking a look at themes prevalent in books of the Bible and connecting them to books of today, Word for Word features books of prayer, popular culture, and the classics. Gillian revels in the opportunities to engage in conversation with authors from around Canada and the United States.

More recently, Gillian also began producing Mothering, Full of Grace. Featuring real moms and real families, this 13-episode series aims to encourage and nourish women in their vocations of wife and mom. In producing this series, she has met some amazing families and is inspired by the work being done in “domestic churches” across the country.

Gillian is married to David Kantor and lives in Oakville, Ont., though she will always look west to Saskatchewan as home. It is there, among the wheat fields and wide open spaces, that her imagination and love for story-telling was first born. After her studies at the University of Saskatchewan, she moved to Toronto to study journalism at Humber College. She began her journalism career as an assistant editor for a children’s magazine for the Canadian Wildlife Federation before taking on a position with the national organizing staff for World Youth Day 2002. And ever since then, she has been working for the Church, happy to combine her faith life with her career. In 2008, Gillian and her husband were fortunate to travel around the world, with stops including a 500 km trek across Northern Spain on the Camino de Santiago and five months in Sydney, Australia, volunteering for World Youth Day 2008.

Gillian and David are happily awaiting the arrival of their first child in December 2008.
