Welcome to the newest feature on the Salt + Light blog: our Week in Review featuring a rundown of Canadian stories about and from the church...with the occasional international story for good measure.
In Regina, Archbishop Daniel Bohan is in talks with church officials in Vietnam about how the archdiocese can help Vietnamese seminarians become priests
In Ottawa, eulogies are not allowed during a funeral Mass. Archbishop Terrence Prendergast issued a decree about the proper place for eulogies last fall and it came into effect February.
In Vancouver, questions are being raised about how illegal immigrants are handled while waiting to be deported from Canada. A Vancouver priest was called to give last rites to a Mexican woman who hung herself in a holding cell at YVR airport, while awaiting deportation.
In Syndey, N.S., one community is fighting to save the only Polish church in Atlantic Canada
And on the international front, fans and devotees of G.K. Chesterton will be please to know an investigator has been assigned at the diocesan level to study the possibility of opening a cause for his sainthood. The investigator says Chesterton breaks the mold, or at least conventional ideas, of what holiness looks like.
