From tying up shoelaces to help with History homework, parents play a giant role in teaching their children. Of course, kids are taught and influenced by their teachers and friends and coaches, but when it comes to “World’s Best Teacher,” well, that’s an award that should go to each parent.
It says so right in the Catechism of the Catholic Church – parents are the primary educators of their children. And of course that means teaching their children things of fact and function… but also of faith. When it comes to prayer and God and the saints and Sacraments… these are all aspects of the Catholic faith that should be lived out in the home, taught by example, and cheered on by the family.
3workingmom-nunans.jpgOn Wednesday's episode of Mothering, Full of Grace, we talk to moms about how they can start a faith education in the home, while supporting and enhancing catechism a child may be receiving at school or church. We meet Monica McConkey, whose search for teaching resources for her children led her to writing her own Treasure Chest of Tradition. And Michael and Echelle Nunan reflect on what it’s like to witness the learning process of their little ones.
Let the learning begin. Watch Mothering, Full of Grace Wednesday April 23rd at 8pm or midnight ET, with an encore presentation this Sunday, April 27th at the same times.
