Pope Francis Last day in Mexico – Perspectives Daily February 18 2016

Pope Francis wrapped up his 6 day Apostolic Visit to Mexico on Wednesday with a visit to the border city of Juarez, where he visited a prison and brought a message of mercy, forgiveness and hope. The Pope spoke of the concern that Jesus Christ had to “care for the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless and prisoners.”

“Divine mercy reminds us that prisons are an indication of the kind of society we are,” the pope said. “In many cases, they are a sign of silence and omissions, which have led to a throw-away culture, a symptom of a culture that has stopped supporting life, of a society that has abandoned its children.

At the final Mass, the Pope spoke about the “humanitarian crisis which in recent years has meant migration for thousands of people” and spoke of the thousands of migrants who have died trying to reach the United States.

It’s here that Pope Francis highlighted the plight of thousands of migrants who, journeying for hundreds of kilometers across mountains, deserts and inhospitable zones.

He appealed for governments to open their hearts, if not their borders, to the “human tragedy that is forced migration” and he implored: “No more death! No more exploitation!”

If you are looking for a great movie to see for date night at the movies, you may want to consider Joseph Fiennes’s new movie RISEN, about the resurrection of  Jesus Christ but through a different lens.

Our friends at CNS had a chance to chat with actress Maria Botto, who played Mary Magdalene, and covered the casts recent trip to Rome to meet the Holy Father during his weekly audience.
