Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary....

Chris Adamczyk

Friday, May 4, 2012

The "Memorare" prayer was first introduced to me by one of my confessors and it was always part of my penance no matter how short or long my confession was (trust me, some of them were quite long!). I eventually learned the prayer by heart. Today the Memorare prayer has a special place in my heart.
One of my favourite ways to honour Mary when I'm at St. Michael's Cathedral is to kneel down before the altar of Our Lady and say the Memorare, which happens to be engraved on the plaque at the kneeler.
One line in particular stays with me and always fills me with hope:  "never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left un-aided". How blessed we are to have a mother in heaven who will almost do anything for us! When Our Lord hung upon the cross and gave us his mother, he was not only giving her a new purpose in her role of salvation, but giving us yet another pathway to his heart which has already shared with us so generously.
I encourage you, as I have so often found myself encouraged, that when you think your prayers drop to the floor just after you utter them to turn with confidence to Mary and trust that she hears you and wants to do everything she can for you. In a particular way I now turn to Mary and pray for all of you who support our Media Ministry, both in prayer and financially. Thank you and may Our Lady keep you.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left un-aided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful, O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
