S+L AT THE PAPAL VISIT: Ad multos annos!

Kris Dmytrenko

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

That's the traditional papal birthday greeting, which means "May you live many more years!" (Credit to the USCCB Papal Visit Blog--I don't know latin.)
No doubt, President George W. Bush will wish Pope Benedict XVI a happy 81st birthday as he arrives at the White House one hour from now. S+L CEO Fr. Thomas Rosica will be present on the South Lawn, while my colleague David Naglieri will be reporting from the papal press corps. There are conflicting estimates regarding the number of thousands expected.
The embargoed welcoming text is no longer a mystery to us in the media centre. One hour ago the text was placed at the back of the room--imagine puppies scrambling to the dinner dish. Of course, what we all want to learn, but which we may never know fully, is what the Pope and the President will be discussing during their subsequent 45 minute private meeting in the Oval Office.
Earlier this morning, David was interviewed by Seamus O'Regan on CTV's Canada AM. You can watch it here.
