What does the Catholic Church teach about tattoos? Fr. Rob Galea offers some insight.

A few points when considering a tattoo:
Ask yourself Why?
Why do you want a tattoo? Is it to elevate or draw attention (vanity), or harm yourself? Or is it to draw yourself and others to God?
Ask yourself What?
Be very prudent about what you mark your body with. Be careful of symbols and phrases that are offensive to God and others. Do your research. Be careful not to put 'partners' names or things that you will later regret. Remember that a tattoo is permanent.
Respect the wish of your spouse - remember that your body, in marriage, is not only your own.
Respect the wishes of your parents if you are under 18 (or live under your parents roof).
