Noel-BlogWelcome to S+L’s Weekly News Round-Up, where we search, summarize and present to you interesting Catholic News from around the world.
As the Director of Marketing and Communications here at S+L, I am exposed to many interesting Catholic news stories and articles on a daily basis. Some of them we cover on our different programs and others I’d like to share through other media channels.
I thought I’d put together and share some of the interesting articles that I’ve come across over the past week. Enjoy!
First up, with the Holy Father’s visit to Asia this week, Popemania is sweeping the Philippines. Filipinos have welcomed popes with rock-star intensity since 1970 and Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines this week will be no exception. Full Story Here.
Unfortunately, forecasters in the area say that a tropical depression is projected to enter the Philippines today or tomorrow and could turn into a cyclone later this week. Read up about it here.
Now here is an interesting piece. Although it’s no surprise to anyone that the Pope has been included on the list again as one of the world's top 100 influencers on business ethics, the head of the Knights of Columbus, Carl Anderson, makes the list for the very first time! Full Story Here.
ExodusBig Hollywood Blockbuster movies! Now who doesn’t love a good movie, especially when it’s a big budget film with a roster of A-lister actors and better yet, a biblical film? However, is Ridley Scott’s movie on Moses - Exodus; Gods and Kings - as good as everyone hoped it would be? Is it family night at the movies? Should you go spend money to see it? Here is an interesting perspective. Full Story Here.
Speaking of movies, who doesn’t remember Raul Julia’s amazing performance as Archbishop Oscar Romero in his 1989 film Romero? Well, last Friday, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints unanimously voted to recognize Archbishop Oscar Romero’s martyrdom and all doctrinal objections to his beatification have been withdrawn. Read about it here on the Vatican Insider.
Now, while we are on the topic of martyrdom, my own mother often complained that she felt like a martyr, raising a kid like me! Apparently she was right, and the Pope agrees (although not specifically about raising me as a child.) Here’s a video that caught my attention. The Pope talks about Motherhood and Martyrdom.
And finally, since we are on the topic of motherhood - to breastfeed in public or not. All you mothers out there with infants, I’m sure you’ve all pondered this question at some point. Our Holy Father had some interesting thoughts on the subject. Have a look.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments on these stories. If you have any interesting stories, please feel free to send them to me.
I hope you enjoy these little stories. I certainly have. Till next week!
