John Paul II to be named "Blessed" in May

Matthew Harrison

Friday, January 14, 2011

The Church is rejoicing today as the Vatican announced that Pope John Paul II will be declared "Blessed."
Our own, Fr. Thomas Rosica penned a message from WYD Madrid meetings noting the excitement at the meetings over the news.  He also explained the significance of the beatification date of May 1st, shared that the Polish Pontiff will be a patron of the Madrid WYD, and recounted the closeness we have to the late Holy Father here at Salt + Light.  You can read his full message here.
Catholic News Service also offered an article with reaction from the retired prefect of the Congregation for Saints' Causes, Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus Carl Anderson, a former US Ambassador to the Vatican, and Catholics on the street.  See the article here.
Vatican Radio also has the full decree in English here.  It is divided into a series of themes that characterized the Pope's pontificate and life.
