I asked Doctor Gasbarri, who is the one in charge of things, who organizes the trip, if there was a small place to meet with you, and by midday he had everything arranged. So I want to thank Doctor Gasbarri publicly, for what he has succeeded in doing today.

I would like to say something. What do I expect as a consequence of the Youth Day? I expect a mess. There will be one. There will be a mess here in Rio? There will be! But I want a mess in the dioceses! I want people to go out! I want the Church to go out to the street! I want us to defend ourselves against everything that is worldliness, that is installation, that is comfortableness, that is clericalism, that is being shut-in in ourselves. The parishes, the schools, the institutions, exist to go out! If they don't go out, they become NGOs, and the Church can't be an NGO.

May the Bishops and priests forgive me, if one of them afterwards has a row with you, but it is my advice. Thank you for what you can do. Look, I think that at this moment, this global civilization has gone too far, has gone too far! Because the worship of the god-money is such, that we are witnessing a philosophy and praxis of exclusion of the two poles of life which are the promises of the nations. And of course, because one could think that there might be a sort of hidden euthanasia, namely, that the elderly are not looked after. But there is also a cultural euthanasia: they are not allowed to speak; they are not allowed to act! And <then there is> the exclusion of young people: the percentage that exists of young people without work, unemployed, is very high! And it is a generation that doesn't have the experience of the dignity earned by work. In other words, this civilization has led us to exclude the two extremes that are our future!

So, young people must go out, they must show their worth. Young people must go out to fight for values, to fight for values! And oldsters must open their mouth; the elderly must open their mouth and teach us, transmitting to us the wisdom of the nations. In the Argentine Nation, I ask this from my heart of the elderly: do not shirk your duty to be the cultural reserve of our people, which transmits justice, which transmits history, which transmits values, which transmits the memory of the Nation. And you, please, don't have it in for the elderly! Let them speak, listen to them, and go forward! But know, know that at this moment you, the young and the old, are condemned to the same destiny: exclusion! Don't let yourselves be excluded! Is that clear? That's why I think you have to work.

And faith in Jesus Christ isn't a joke, it's something very serious, it's a scandal. That God came to make Himself one of us is a scandal! And that He died on the Cross is a scandal, the scandal of the Cross. The Cross continues to be a scandal, but the Cross is the only sure way, Jesus is the only sure way, Jesus' Incarnation!

Please, don't liquefy faith in Jesus Christ! There is orange milk shake, apple milk shake, banana milkshake, but please, don't take liquefied faith! The faith is whole, it's not to be liquefied. It is faith in Jesus. It is faith in the Son of God made man, who loved me and died for me.

So, have a row! Look after the extremes of the Nation which are the elderly and young people! Don't let yourselves be excluded and don't let the elderly be excluded; secondly, don't liquefy faith in Jesus Christ.

The Beatitudes! What do we have to do, Father? Look, read the Beatitudes which will do you good, and if you want to know what practical thing you must do, read Matthew 25, which is the protocol with which we will be judged. With those two things you have the program of action: the Beatitudes and Matthew 25. You don't need to read anything else. I ask this of you from the depth of my heart!

Well, I already thank you for this closeness, I'm sorry that you are caged, but I'll tell you one thing. At times I feel how awful it is to be caged! I tell you this from my heart. O well, I understand you! I would have liked to be closer to you, but I understand that for reasons of order, it's not possible.

Gracias.. Gracias.. por estar hoy aquí, por haber venido… Gracias a los que están adentro y muchas gracias a los que están afuera. A los 30 mil, que me dicen que hay afuera. Desde acá los saludo; están bajo la lluvia... Gracias por el gesto de acercarse... Gracias por haber venido a la Jornada de la Juventud. Yo le sugerí al doctor Gasbarri, que es el que maneja, el que organiza el viaje, si hubiera un lugarcito para encontrarme con ustedes, y en medio día tenía arreglado todo. Así que también le quiero agradecer públicamente al doctor Gasbarri esto que ha logrado hoy.

Quisiera decir una cosa: ¿qué es lo que espero como consecuencia de la Jornada de la Juventud? Espero lío. Que
acá adentro va a haber lío, va a haber. Que acá en Río va a haber lío, va a haber. Pero quiero lío en las diócesis, quiero que se salga afuera… Quiero que la Iglesia salga a la calle, quiero que nos defendamos de todo lo que sea mundanidad, de lo que sea instalación, de lo que sea comodidad, de lo que sea clericalismo, de lo que sea estar encerrados en nosotros mismos.

Las parroquias, los colegios, las instituciones son para salir; si no salen se convierten en una ONG, y la Iglesia no puede ser una ONG. Que me perdonen los Obispos y los curas, si algunos después le arman lío a ustedes, pero.. Es el consejo. Y gracias por lo que puedan hacer.

Miren, yo pienso que, en este momento, esta civilización mundial se pasó de rosca, se pasó de rosca, porque es tal el culto que ha hecho al dios dinero, que estamos presenciando una filosofía y una praxis de exclusión de los dos polos de la vida que son las promesas de los pueblos. Exclusión de los ancianos, por supuesto, porque uno podría pensar que podría haber una especie de eutanasia escondida; es decir, no se cuida a los ancianos; pero también está la eutanasia cultural: no se les deja hablar, no se les deja actuar. Y exclusión de los jóvenes. El porcentaje que hay de jóvenes sin trabajo, sin empleo, es muy alto, y es una generación que no tiene la experiencia de la dignidad ganada por el trabajo. O sea, esta civilización nos ha llevado a excluir las dos puntas, que son el futuro nuestro. Entonces, los jóvenes: tienen que salir, tienen que hacerse valer; los jóvenes tienen que salir a luchar por los valores, a luchar por esos valores; y los viejos abran la boca, los ancianos abran la boca y enséñennos; transmítannos la sabiduría de los pueblos. En el pueblo argentino, yo se los pido de corazón a los ancianos: no claudiquen de ser la reserva cultural de nuestro pueblo que trasmite la justicia, que trasmite la historia, que trasmite los valores, que trasmite la memoria del pueblo. Y ustedes, por favor, no se metan contra los viejos; déjenlos hablar, escúchenlos, y lleven adelante. Pero sepan, sepan que, en este momento, ustedes, los jóvenes, y los ancianos, están condenados al mismo destino: exclusión; no se dejen excluir. ¿Está claro? Por eso, creo que tienen que trabajar. Y la fe en Jesucristo no es broma, es algo muy serio. Es un escándalo que Dios haya venido a hacerse uno de nosotros; es un escándalo, y que haya muerto en la Cruz, es un escándalo: El escándalo de la Cruz. La Cruz sigue siendo escándalo, pero es el único camino seguro: el de la Cruz, el de Jesús, la encarnación de Jesús. Por favor, no licuen la fe en Jesucristo. Hay licuado de naranja, hay licuado de manzana, hay licuado de banana, pero, por favor, no tomen licuado de fe. La fe es entera, no se licua. Es la fe en Jesús. Es la fe en el Hijo de Dios hecho hombre, que me amó y murió por mí. Entonces: Hagan lío; cuiden los extremos del pueblo, que son los ancianos y los jóvenes; no se dejen excluir, y que no excluyan a los ancianos. Segundo: no licuen la fe en Jesucristo. Las bienaventuranzas. ¿Qué tenemos que hacer, Padre? Mira, lee las bienaventuranzas que te van a venir bien. Y si querés saber qué cosa práctica tenés que hacer, lee Mateo 25, que es el protocolo con el cual nos van a juzgar. Con esas dos cosas tienen el programa de acción: Las bienaventuranzas y Mateo 25. No necesitan leer otra cosa. Se lo pido de corazón. Bueno, les agradezco ya esta cercanía. Me da pena que estén enjaulados. Pero, les digo una cosa: Yo, por momentos, siento: ¡Qué feo que es estar enjaulados! Se lo confieso de corazón… Pero, veremos… Los comprendo. Y me hubiera gustado estar más cerca de ustedes, pero comprendo que, por razón de orden, no se puede. Gracias por acercarse; gracias por rezar por mí; se lo pido de corazón, necesito, necesito de la oración de ustedes, necesito mucho. Gracias por eso… Y, bueno, les voy a dar la Bendición y después vamos a bendecir la imagen de la Virgen, que va a recorrer toda la República… y la cruz de San Francisco, que van a recorrer ‘misionariamente’. Pero no se olviden: Hagan lío; cuiden los dos extremos de la vida, los dos extremos de la historia de los pueblos, que son los ancianos y los jóvenes, y no licuen la fe.

Y ahora vamos a rezar, para bendecir la imagen de la Virgen y darles después la bendición a ustedes.

Nos ponemos de pie para la Bendición, pero, antes, quiero agradecer lo que dijo Mons. Arancedo, que de puro
maleducado no se lo agradecí. Así que gracias por tus palabras.

Dios te salve, María, llena eres de gracia….
Señor, Tú dejaste en medio de nosotros a tu Madre, para que nos acompañara. Que Ella nos cuide, nos proteja en nuestro camino, en nuestro corazón, en nuestra fe. Que Ella nos haga discípulos, como lo fue Ella, y misioneros, como también lo fue Ella. Que nos enseñe a salir a la calle, que nos enseñe a salir de nosotros mismos.
Bendecimos esta imagen, Señor, que va a recorrer el País. Que Ella con su mansedumbre, con su paz, nos indique el camino.
Señor, Vos sos un escándalo, el escándalo de la Cruz. Una Cruz que es humildad, mansedumbre; una Cruz que nos habla de la cercanía de Dios.
Bendecimos también esta imagen de la Cruz, que recorrerá el país.

Grazie…, grazie per essere qui, grazie per essere venuti… Grazie a coloro che sono dentro e molte grazie a coloro che sono rimasti fuori. Ai trentamila che mi dicono essere fuori. Li saluto da qui. Sono sotto la pioggia… grazie per il gesto di essersi avvicinati, grazie per essere venuti alla Giornata della Gioventù. Avevo suggerito al dottor Gasbarri, che è la persona che gestisce, che organizza il viaggio, di trovare un posticino per un incontro con voi, e in mezza giornata ha sistemato tutto. Voglio anche ringraziare pubblicamente il dottor Gasbarri per ciò che è riuscito a fare oggi.

Desidero dirvi ciò che spero come conseguenza della Giornata della Gioventù: spero che ci sia chiasso. Qui ci sarà chiasso, ci sarà. Qui a Rio ci sarà chiasso, ci sarà. Però io voglio che ci sia chiasso nelle diocesi, voglio che si esca fuori, voglio che la Chiesa esca per le strade, voglio che ci difendiamo da tutto ciò che è mondanità, immobilismo, da ciò che è comodità, da ciò che è clericalismo, da tutto quello che è l’essere chiusi in noi stessi. Le parrocchie, le scuole, le istituzioni sono fatte per uscire fuori…, se non lo fanno diventano una ONG e la Chiesa non può essere una ONG. Che mi perdonino i vescovi ed i sacerdoti, se alcuni dopo vi creeranno confusione. E’ il consiglio. Grazie per ciò che potrete fare.

Guardate, io penso che, in questo momento, questa civiltà mondiale sia andata oltre i limiti, sia andata oltre i limiti perché ha creato un tale culto del dio denaro, che siamo in presenza di una filosofia e di una prassi di esclusione dei due poli della vita che sono le promesse dei popoli. Esclusione degli anziani, ovviamente. Uno potrebbe pensare che ci sia una specie di eutanasia nascosta, cioè non ci si prende cura degli anziani; ma c’è anche un’eutanasia culturale, perché non li si lascia parlare, non li si lascia agire. E l’esclusione dei giovani. La percentuale che abbiamo di giovani senza lavoro, senza impiego, è molto alta e abbiamo una generazione che non ha esperienza della dignità guadagnata con il lavoro. Questa civiltà, cioè, ci ha portato a escludere i due vertici che sono il nostro futuro. Allora i giovani: devono emergere, devono farsi valere; i giovani devono uscire per lottare per i valori, lottare per questi valori; e gli anziani devono aprire la bocca, gli anziani devono aprire la bocca e insegnarci! Trasmetteteci la saggezza dei popoli!

Nel popolo argentino, io chiedo, di vero cuore, agli anziani: non venite meno nell’essere la riserva culturale del nostro popolo, riserva che trasmette la giustizia, che trasmette la storia, che trasmette i valori, che trasmette la memoria del popolo. E voi, per favore, non mettetevi contro gli anziani: lasciateli parlare, ascoltateli e andate avanti. Ma sappiate, sappiate che in questo momento voi, giovani, e gli anziani, siete condannati allo stesso destino: esclusione. Non vi lasciate
escludere. E’ chiaro! Per questo credo che dobbiate lavorare. La fede in Gesù Cristo non è uno scherzo, è una cosa molto seria. E’ uno scandalo che Dio sia venuto a farsi uno di noi. E’ uno scandalo che sia morto su una croce. E’ uno scandalo: lo scandalo della Croce. La Croce continua a far scandalo. Ma è l’unico cammino sicuro: quello della Croce, quello di Gesù, quello dell’Incarnazione di Gesù. Per favore, non “frullate” la fede in Gesù Cristo. C’è il frullato di arancia, c’è il frullato di mela, c’è il frullato di banana, ma per favore non bevete “frullato” di fede.

La fede è intera, non si frulla. E’ la fede in Gesù. E’ la fede nel Figlio di Dio fatto uomo, che mi ha amato ed è morto per me. Allora: fate chiasso; abbiate cura degli estremi della popolazione, che sono gli anziani e i giovani; non lasciatevi escludere e che non si escludano gli anziani. Secondo: non “frullate” la fede in Gesù Cristo. Le Beatitudini. Che cosa dobbiamo fare, Padre? Guarda, leggi le Beatitudini che ti faranno bene. Se vuoi sapere che cosa devi fare concretamente leggi Matteo capitolo 25, che è il protocollo con il quale verremo giudicati. Con queste due cose avete il Piano d’azione: le Beatitudini e Matteo 25. Non avete bisogno di leggere altro. Ve lo chiedo con tutto il cuore. Va bene; vi ringrazio per questa vicinanza. Mi dispiace che siate ingabbiati, però vi dico una cosa. Io, ogni tanto, lo sperimento: che brutta cosa è essere ingabbiati. Ve lo confesso di cuore, ma vediamo… Vi capisco. Mi sarebbe piaciuto esservi più vicino, ma comprendo che, per ragioni di sicurezza, non si può. Grazie per essere venuti, grazie per pregare per me; ve lo chiedo di cuore, ne ho bisogno. Ho bisogno delle vostre preghiere, ne ho tanto bisogno. Grazie per questo. Ebbene, vi voglio dare la Benedizione e dopo benediremo l’immagine della Vergine che percorrerà tutta la Repubblica… e la croce di San Francesco, che viaggeranno missionariamente. Ma non dimenticate: fate chiasso; abbiate cura dei due estremi della vita, i due estremi della storia dei popoli, che sono gli anziani e i giovani; e non frullate la fede. E adesso preghiamo, per benedire l’immagine della Vergine e darvi poi la Benedizione.

Ci alziamo in piedi per la Benedizione, ma prima voglio ringraziare per quello che ha detto mons. Arancedo, perché da autentico maleducato non l’ho ringraziato. Quindi, grazie per le tue parole!

Signore, Tu hai lasciato in mezzo a noi tua Madre perché ci accompagnasse.

Signore. Tu sei uno scandalo. Tu sei uno scandalo: lo scandalo della Croce. Una Croce che è umiltà, mansuetudine;
una Croce che ci parla della vicinanza di Dio. Benediciamo anche questa immagine della Croce che percorrerà il Paese.
