As the bishops of Canada do each morning at their annual gathering, they began the day with Mass and Morning Prayer. Today's homilist was Bishop Douglas Crosby of Hamilton, who was was re-elected yesterday as the Co-Treasurer of the bishops' conference.
This morning, the bishops discussed two issues that have inspired a great deal of media attention in the past year. In the first closed-door session of the day, two reports were given on Development and Peace. Later this morning, the bishops will hear from the Commission on Justice and Peace on the subject of immigration.
This afternoon will be devoted to bishops from the English sector. (The French sector will have their meetings on Thursday morning.) The agenda includes a progress report on the implementation of the revised Roman Missal, as well as nominations of delegates for the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization, which will take place in Rome next fall.
If you missed today's Mass, it can be viewed on demand on our CCCB Plenary Assembly web page. For a full report on day three of the Plenary Assembly, watch Perspectives Daily at 7:00pm & 11:00pm ET / 8:00pm PT. Tonight we will air the first interview given by the new President of the CCCB. Plus, we will hear a significant announcement from the bishops on issues of life and the family, along with an update on Development & Peace.
