Archbishop Fulton Sheen: “He spoke Well of our Lord”

June 6, 2007
Archbishop Fulton Sheen and Pope John Paul II meeting at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, October 2, 1979Did you know actor Martin Sheen took his name from the great television preacher Archbishop Fulton Sheen? Did you know Archbishop Sheen's TV program drew in as may 30 million people on a weekly basis?!?!
To learn more about this extraordinary priest and pioneer in communications watch this evening's new edition of Catholic Focus, airing at 7pm and 11pm ET (repeating on Saturday, June 9th at the same times). Archbishop Fulton Sheen, the acclaimed preacher, author and TV personality was an ever present reality in many Catholic homes, including my own. His linguistic flair, dramatic style and one of a kind sense of humour set him apart from his peers.
In tonight's show I speak to Archbishop Thomas Collins of Toronto to learn more about how Sheen impacted his own priestly ministry. We will also profile a seminarian who was inspired by Archbishop Sheen's commitment to the daily Holy Hour.
This show should make you laugh (as only Sheen can) and it might even make you cry (as Sheen recounts an incredible conversion experience), but above all it will make you reflect on the life of Archbishop Sheen, to whom John Paul said in his apostolic visit to the United States in 1979, "You have written and spoken well of Our Lord."
