Canada's Apostolic Nuncio addresses the Canadian Bishops

September 24, 2012
His Excellency Most Reverend Pedro López Quintana, Apostolic Nuncio to Canada addressed the Canadian Bishops at their annual Plenary Assembly this evening.  The Nuncio spoke at length about the essence of the New Evangelization, often quoting the Instrumentum Laboris (working document for the Synod on the New Evangelization).  He also touched on the importance of Catholic education in Canada and its essential place in the life of the Church and families.  Encouraging the Canadian Episcopate, the Nuncio affirmed that the Church is essentially missionary and that, "In the New Evangelization, we ourselves are evangelized, and in turn we go out and evangelize others."
The Apostolic Nuncio represents the Holy Father to the Church in Canada. His role is equivalent to an ambassador. He represents the Holy See to the Canadian Government.
