Two faces sharing the same image

July 17, 2015
The following is a translation of a reflection posted by Madonna Lee on Pope Francis’ Visit to South America on our Chinese website. Each week, Madonna posts a reflection on what she sees happening in the Church, and many come back each week to read her reflections. Now and then, we would like to share these reflections with our english-speaking audience.
“One face is like the pain you bear on the Cross while the other is like the mercifulness of your Holy face. They both are your image, Lord. When they meet, there is hope.”
Last week, Pope Francis had a very busy schedule. This was his 9th Papal Visit and the second time that he returned to his birth place, Latin America, since he was elected Pope. It is now a different time, and time and again he walked through the poorest places, hospitals, prisons…
To the youth, you asked them to pray for a free heart;
To the sick children, you praised them as true fighters;
To the prisoners, you brought them strength to renew a life;
To the People of power, you told them human dignity will override any injustice;
To the women and mothers, you said they are like Mother Mary.
His theme is to rebuild life from destruction and finding hope against hopeless. He is a pilgrim who came as a guest to share the joy of the gospel.
Through his journey, we witness respect, a respect that is found in the noble faith of our suffering brothers and sisters, who are the images of Christ.
Watch our coverage from each day, and perhaps we may draw some inspiration to renew our lives on the themes of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Visit. What does his Apostolic Visit teach me about living a life with hope and freedom?
Hope is not just a part of winning a lucky lottery ticket. It is much more than that. It is a covenant, free for those who are called by God’s love.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 21:4
