Last weekend, Pope Francis created 17 new cardinals in a ceremony held at the Vatican. In his homily he spoke against the danger of polarisation and exclusion in the Church, saying "we are not immune from this and we need to take care lest such attitudes find a place in our hearts, because this would be contrary to the richness and universality of the Church". Finally, he presided the rite of the closing of the Holy Door at Saint Peter's Basilica thus concluding the Jubilee Year of Mercy and celebrated Mass in Saint Peter's Square with close to 70 000 pilgrims.
