Perspectives Daily - Healthcare Professionals Forced To Make Referrals For Euthanasia

Here in Canada, Archbishop Michael Miller is appealing to Vancouver’s Catholic community to respond to the region’s drug overdose crisis, urging schools, parishes and organizations to consider how they can reach-out to the marginalized,.. especially those, suffering from addiction and mental illness.
In a pastoral letter to the archdiocese’s Catholics, Archbishop Miller wrote,.. “As people of faith, we can speak up, increase public awareness about this crisis, and take practical steps to address it.”
His letter invites Catholics to look at ways to address the crisis, including calling on politicians to improve addiction treatment and care,.. as well as supporting organizations on the front lines.

Marie Collins, a Member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors resigned from the Commission last week. Mrs. Collins, a Member of the Commission since 2014 is a survivor of clerical abuse, has been a champion for victims & survivors,.. to be a priority of the Church.
In a phone interview with CRUX, Mrs Collins said,.. “The reason for me leaving the Commission is completely down to the fact that, the work we’re trying to do,.. is being hindered and blocked by members of the curia. The commission itself", she said, "has been working really hard, and trying to put forth, the mission given to us by the Holy Father".
Commission president, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, said Marie’s concerns would be listened to carefully and discussed at next month’s plenary meeting and said that, Mrs.Collins will continue to work with the Commission on training programs for new bishops and for other offices of the Holy See. This week, the Pope and the Curia will be in a Lenten retreat in Ariccia for Six days of reflections and meditations.
Yesterday, on the first Sunday of Lent, the Pope reiterated his call for prayer, during His morning’s Angelus at St. Peter’s Square.
The Pope then left the Holy See with the Curia for a week of Lenten spiritual Exercises focused on “Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus according to the Gospel of Matthew.” During this week of spiritual exercises, all Pope’s audiences are suspended, including this Wednesday’s general audience.
And finally here in Canada, the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario require physicians to make referrals for assisted euthanasia since Canada legalized assisted suicide last year.
Many physicians and other health care workers are unable to do this and as a result, they are being forced to make a hard choice between their conscience and their careers.
