Perspectives Daily - Bishop Frederick Henry Awarded The Justice James Higgins Award

March 14, 2017
We begin today with The Vatican Insider reporting that it’s highly likely that a meeting between the Pope and President Donald Trump is possible when when US President travels to Italy for G7 summit in May.
Diplomatic sources have said the US President will see the Pope when he comes to Italy for the G7 gathering, which the White House has confirmed he would attend. At this point however, The Holy See is not commenting on or when, a meeting between the two will take place but, Vatican sources say that the May G7 Summit does open the way for a possible meeting between world’s most two most riveting public figures.
The interesting question is, how will two figures work together?
Louis Bono, from the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See, talks to CNS about how Pope Francis and President Trump might work together.
Now were in Canada, the Canadian Catholic School Trustees' Association has just named Bishop Frederick Henry, Bishop Emeritus of Calgary, the recipient of its 2017 Justice James Higgins award.  The award is the highest honour given by the CC-STA and is named in memory of the distinguished Canadian jurist and Catholic school trustee, for Outstanding contribution to Catholic education in Canada.
Bishop Henry will receive the award at the CC-STA annual general meeting and conference in Niagara Falls, this June 2017.
Salt and Light TV will air an exclusive one-on-one rare interview with Bishop Henry on WITNESS with Fr.Thomas Rosica, this Sunday March 19th at 7pm Eastern.
It looks like the Pope is considering some oversea trips in the near future. Vatican spokesman, Greg Burke, said in a statement that the The Vatican is examining the possibility of Pope Francis visiting Egypt, but no dates nor a programme have been finalized yet. This statement came after Italian national broadcaster RAI claimed, that the Pope would visit Cairo at the end of May.
Presuming the visit goes ahead, Pope Francis will be the second Roman Catholic pope to visit Egypt, following St.John Paul II's historic trip there in February 2000. In addition to this, The Pope has also mentioned that his staff is “studying the possibility” of a visit to South Sudan. This statement came from the Holy Father during his visit to Rome’s All Saints Anglican Church in back in February.
“We are looking at whether it is possible, or if the situation down there is too dangerous. But we have to do it”, The Pope said, “Because they – (the three Christian communities: Anglican, Presbyterian & Catholic), together desire peace, and they are working together for it.”
At the moment, the Pope only has two confirmed overseas trips scheduled this year, one to Fatima in May and the other Colombia in September.
And that is all that we have time for today, thank you for joining us and we’ll see you again next tomorrow.
