Salt + Light earns 2011 Gabriel Award for Religious Television Station of the Year

TORONTO, April 27, 2011 – Salt + Light has received the prestigious title of "Religious Television Station of the Year” from the Catholic Academy for Communications Arts Professionals. The award will be given to the network on June 24, 2011 at the 2011 Gabriel Awards, an annual celebration that honours excellence in film, television, radio and other communication projects that serve audiences "through the positive, creative treatment of concerns to humankind." This is the third time that Salt + Light has earned the title. The channel began broadcasting in July 2003.

"This award pays tribute to the hard work of everyone at Salt + Light, our donors and benefactors, and the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus who have been faithful and strong supporters of our efforts since our beginnings,” said Fr. Thomas Rosica, CSB, CEO of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation. "The award recognizes our efforts in responding to Pope John Paul II’s call for the New Evangelization, which is at the core of our media ministry."

Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation was born on the wings of World Youth Day 2002 and relies on the donations of supporters to continue its ministry of faith formation, inspiration and education to people around the world. Since its inception, Salt + Light has also produced original television series and award-winning documentaries, a semi-annual magazine, a popular website, a blog and a radio program that is available on satellite radio and as a podcast.

The 2011 Gabriel Awards will be presented on Friday evening June 24, 2011 at the close of the Catholic Media Convention sponsored by the Catholic Academy and the Catholic Press Association (June 22-24) at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
