Witness - Cardinal Pietro Parolin
This week, Fr. Thomas Rosica interviews Italian Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State. Many consider this position to be akin to the Prime Minister who runs the government. In this rare interview with one of the Pope’s closest collaborators, you will meet a distinguished gentleman, outstanding priest and seasoned papal diplomat who is in the engine room of the Roman Catholic Church. As a young monsignor in the Vatican’s foreign service, Pietro Parolin represented the Vatican in a variety of sensitive assignments, including relations with North Korea and Vietnam as well as the 2007 “Annapolis Conference” on the Middle East convened by the Bush administration. Msgr. Parolin assisted in re-establishing direct contact with China. On August 17, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed Msgr. Parolin Apostolic Nuncio to Venezuela. On August 31, 2014, Pope Francis named Archbishop Parolin Vatican Secretary of State. At 58, he became the youngest Secretary of State since 1929, when Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli (the future Pope Pius XII) was appointed to the position at the age of 53. Archbishop Parolin was named a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church on February 22, 2014. In July 2014, Pope Francis named him the ninth member of the Council of Cardinal Advisers.

One Ordinary Sunday is perhaps Paula Huston’s most compelling and original book to date. The award-winning novelist and spiritual writer guides us through a Mass on the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time at her home parish in Arroyo Grande, California. Huston’s personal and spiritual reflections offer fresh and often unexpected insights into the profound mystery at the heart of the Catholic faith.
