Witness - Fr. Patrick Ryan, SJ   
Rev. Patrick J. Ryan, S.J., is the Laurence J. McGinley Chair in Religion and Society at Fordham University. A native New Yorker, Patrick Ryan entered the Society of Jesus in 1957. Following his ordination to the priesthood, he earned a Ph.D. in the history of religion (with a specialization in Arabic and Islamic Studies) from Harvard University, where his mentor was the famous Canadian scholar of Islam, Wilfred Cantwell Smith. For about half of his life as a Jesuit priest, he has served in Africa, mostly in Nigeria and Ghana. Fr. Ryan is an internationally acclaimed theologian, historian, teacher and expert in the “trialogue” of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In this in-depth WITNESS interview, Fr. Ryan shares his great knowledge of Islam and helps us to understand better the urgency and necessity of dialogue with Muslims in today’s world.

Tanti considerano questa posizione simile a quella del primo ministro del governo. In questa rara intervista con uno dei collaboratori più vicini al Papa, conoscerete un sacerdote meraviglioso e un diplomata papale di grande esperienza che lavora nella sala macchine della Chiesa cattolica romana. Da giovane monsignore, Pietro Parolin rappresentò il Vaticano per una serie di progetti delicati, tra i quali le relazioni con la Corea del Nord, il Vietnam e il "Annapolis Conference" del 2007 sul Medio Oriente, convenuto dall'amministrazione di Bush. Mons. Parolin collaborò nella ripresa dei contatti diretti con la Cina. Il 17 agosto 2009, Papa Benedetto XVI nomina Mons. Parolin Nunzio Apostolico in Venezuela. Il 31 agosto 2014, Papa Francesco nomina Arcivescovo Parolin Segretario di Stato Vaticano. All'età di 58 anni e' diventato il più giovane Segretario di Stato dal 1929, quando Eugenio Cardinale Pacelli (il futuro Papa Pio XII ) fu nominato per la posizione all'età di 53. Mons. Parolin fu nominato cardinale della Chiesa cattolica romana il 22 febbraio 2014. Nel mese di luglio 2014, Papa Francesco lo nomina il nono membro del consiglio di consiglieri cardinali.

Philippe Bordeyne, born on December 21, 1959 in Paris, is a French priest, academic and theologian, dean of Theologicum from 2006 to 2011 and rector of the Catholic Institute of Paris since 2011. Ordained priest in 1988 for the diocese of Nanterre (France) in 1989, he obtained his Master's degree and became teaching assistant at the Catholic Institute of Paris (ICP). In 2001, he obtained his doctorate, jointly awarded by the ICP for Theology and by the University Paris-Sorbonne for the History of Religions and Anthropology of Religions. Among his various academic functions, he is president of the Conference of Deans of the Faculties of Canon Law of France from 2006 to 2009; President of the International Conference of Catholic Theological Institutions from 2008 to 2011; Member of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Catholic Universities from 2009 to 2012; President of the Union of Catholic Higher Education Institutions from 2013 to 2016; co-publisher and editor of the Bulletin of Moral Theology of Research in Religious Sciences. In 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Chaplain of His Holiness. In 2015, Pope Francis appointed him expert for the Synod of Bishops on the Mission of the Family in the Church and in the world. As a theologian, he is a specialist in Moral Theology, Ecumenism and Theological Hermeneutics of the Second Vatican Council. He is also the founder of the collection "Theology at the University"
