On November 8th Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, became the ninth bishop to serve the Diocese of Hamilton, Ontario.

The 62-year old prelate succeeds the retiring Bishop Anthony Tonnos, who has served Hamilton since 1984.

Bishop Crosby is originally from Marathon, Ontario – a small town between Sault St. Marie and Thunder Bay.

He entered the Oblates if Mary Immaculate in 1968 and studied Philosophy and French at Ottawa’s Carleton University. His theology studies were completed at St. Paul University in Ottawa, and he was ordained a priest in 1975.

As a priest, much of the Bishop’s assignments were in eastern Canada.

In 1997 he was named the Bishop of Labrador City–Schefferville, followed by a 2003 appointment to head the diocese of St. George’s Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2007 after a change of diocesan boundaries, he was appointed the head of the newly formed Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador, where he has served until now.
