Fr. Thomas Rosica, CSB
Series Page
Book Description

In this beautifully written book, respected biblical scholar, lecturer and author, Fr. Thomas Rosica, reflects on the last words of Christ as he hung on the cross and their significance to our modern world. Interspersed with his commentary are the words and wisdom from Popes Francis, Benedict, and John Paul I, Mother Teresa, and Jewish writer on the Holocaust Yaffa Eliach. Presented first as a series of homilies for the Tre Ore Celebration at St. James Cathedral in Seattle, Washington on Good Friday, 2016, The Seven Last Words of Christ invites us to ponder deeply our own frailties, fear of death, and thirst for justice.

My Take
An effective blend of biblical scholarship and pastoral sense makes The Seven Last Words of Christ a solid catechetical and reflection tool for any Christian. Rather than ignore or dismiss the troubling concept of a savior crucified, Rosica embraces it and challenges the reader to do the same with the sure hope of resurrection.

“Our journey to the foot of the cross is made all the richer thanks to these insightful reflections of Father Rosica and his ability to combine scholarship with pastoral experience. It is precisely this gift that opens up for us fresh perspectives as we listen with renewed hearts and insight to the seven last words of Christ on the cross.”
