Wednesday, January 4, 2012

On the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe Pope Benedict XVI announced he will visit Mexico and Cuba in 2012.  Today the Mexican Bishops' Conference and the Cuban Bishops' conference each released a preliminary itinerary of the Holy Father's visit to their nations.
Pope Benedict will arrive in the Mexican city of  Leon on March 23, 2012.  His schedule won't be as hectic as previous voyages. On March 24 he travels to nearby Guanajuato and the Casa del Conde Rul for an official visit with Mexican President Felipe Calderon. After the visit he will greet the local youth assembled at the Casa. The one Mass he will celebrate in Mexico will be held March 25 in Parque Bicentenario in the municipality of Silao.
March 26 will see the Holy Father travel to Santiago de Cuba. Raul Castro will be on hand to welcome Pope Benedict, who will then travel onwards to Plaza de la Revolucion to celebrate Mass for the Feast of the Annunciation.
March 27 takes Pope Benedict to Havana. He will preside at Mass in that city's Plaza de la Revolucion before flying back to Rome.
