Sir George-Étienne Cartier (1814-1873), 1st Baronet, PC was a French-Canadian statesman and Father of Confederation. Born in a family of Merchants, 7th of 8 children, George-Étienne Cartier got a Catholic education with the Suplicians in Montreal. A lawyer by profession, his political commitment brought him in a journey from the "patriotes" to Father of the Confederation.
After his death John A. Macdonald said "If it had not been of George-Étienne Cartier, there wouldn't be a Confederation". Even today, Canadians can be inspired by his commitment to unity and will for building bridges between different communities.
