ST. PIUS X PICTURED IN UNDATED PHOTO
Now that we have a date, the next big question on everyone's mind is how long will it take before we know who's our next Pope? In the last one hundred years there have been nine conclaves to date, ten if you count the one that will start on March 12. In honour of this momentous occasion we've put together a mini-series of blogs entitled, Getting to Habemus Papam . Over the next couple of days, we'll share how many days and how many ballots it took to get to "Habemus Papam!".
We begin in 1903:
Pope Pius X
5 days, 7 ballots
Sixty-two cardinals gathered from July 31 to August 4, 1903. They elected Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, Pius X. He was 68 years old. He died on August 20, 1914.
