Risen Jesus visits Mary

Have you ever asked yourself the question: who did Jesus go to see first after rising from the dead? We know that when the disciples arrived at the tomb first thing on Easter morning, Jesus was not there. Where did He go? Saints over the centuries have said that He probably went to see His mother. We can imagine the scene. How must Mary have felt on that Sunday morning? Was she crushed by the grief of Good Friday? Was she holding out hope that her Son would rise from the dead?
Imagine the room she is staying, there in Jerusalem. Maybe it feels cold, dark, sombre, and sullen. Maybe she hasn’t been able to eat or sleep. Maybe her heart has sunk, as any mother’s would, having witnessed her Son being put to death. And then all of a sudden, into that very room walks Jesus, walking right back into Mary’s life. He is risen. His hands now bear the wounds of the Cross, but it is the same Jesus she had always known, now glorified. He smiles at her gently, sweetly, tenderly. Her heart comes back to life within her. He is risen and she feels risen with Him. Mary, Mother of the Risen Jesus, let us feel the joy of the resurrection as you did.
