CNS Video: Publisher "surprised" by Pope's new book

Kris Dmytrenko

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Though "Light of the World" was officially released on Tuesday, many Catholics are still waiting to get their hands on this new book-length interview with Pope Benedict. I informally surveyed Catholic bookstores in the Greater Toronto Area and found that only one retailer has received its first (sold out) shipment. Other retailers expect theirs to arrive next week at the earliest. The "big box" bookstores do not yet have the title in their system -- another reason to support your local Catholic bookstore.
A number of bishops and Catholic commentators received advance copies of "Light of the World". One Canadian recipient was Bishop Gérald Lacroix, auxiliary bishop and diocesan administrator of Québec City. He was one of the first to share his impressions in this French-language video.
On Tuesday, we interviewed Cardinal Raymond Burke, who, incidentally, was officially welcomed into the College of Cardinals this past weekend. He shares his thoughts on the book, from the viewpoint of one of the Pope's collaborators in the Vatican. We'll post more from that interview soon.
Fr. Joseph Fessio, SJ also has a unique perspective on the book. The Jesuit is the founder and editor of Ignatius Press, the North American distributors of "Light of the World". Moreover, he's a member of the Schulerkreis -- the "student circle" of doctoral candidates who were advised by then-Professor Joseph Ratzinger, and who now meet with the Pope annually for a private theological seminar. Fr. Fessio told Catholic News Service about the prayerful, personal side of Benedict XVI that readers will encounter.

What the CND sisters are looking forward to this Christmas

Tuesday, December 17, 2024

Maria Montemayor

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the CND sisters and enjoy a special lunch of soup, pizza, salad, and dessert. While I was there, I thought it would be a great opportunity to ask the sisters about what they were looking forward to this Christmas.
