I still have many things to say to you…

Trusting in Jesus“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.”
Those words from our Lord in today’s Gospel.
Our Lord said this to his disciples, and he went on to speak of the Holy Spirit coming to guide his followers in the truth, but I have to admit my mind and my heart held onto that line “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now" and I started to think about the line in different contexts and circumstances.
Have you ever wondered why certain things haven’t worked out the way you want them to? Why certain prayers haven’t been heard the way we want them to be heard? Why we seem to push so hard for something that we believe is right, but it fails? Why our hopes are dashed? Or our dreams fall to pieces?
…I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now….
Maybe it’s the case that we can’t bear the things we are asking for. Maybe the pain we suffer now by being denied that request, will be much less painful than what will have occurred had things worked out the way we wanted.
It seems to me, one of the biggest challenges in our life is trust, particularly trust in God. We want things done our way, when we want it … even if its something we cannot yet bear.
My prayer for this day is that my trust in God will grow. That, like a child to his parents, I will abandon myself to God. That I may accept the things that come to me this day, that all this is His plan for me.
That I may have the strength and courage to bear all that He has to say to me.
