Inspiring young people with prayer

Carlos Ferreira

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Lent is a period of reflection and prayer, of looking for the meaning of our prayers. One community is intimately connected with this search is the Taize Community.
The Taize community is an ecumenical society of more than 100 brothers who take vows and commit themselves to the apostolate of reconciliation. It began in 1940 when brother Roger Schutz obtained a house in the French village of Taize. Since then this community has attracted lots of people mainly because of the simplicity of their way of life - which is reflected in their prayers based on the liturgy of the hours.
Taize is a hymn to interfaith dialogue. The notes of that hymn are the increasing numbers of young Christians who every year recognize it is possible to build a different world based on Christ’s love.
Yes, it’s possible to find God in a big city, in your normal life. As one of the Taize songs says, "God is Love! Dare to live for love, there is nothing to fear!"
Since the Taize community is visiting Canada next week  we bring you an encore presentation of the conversation Pedro had in March 2010 with Br. Emile about his community is and how a community based on the prayer can be an inspiration to young people around the world.
Join us for this discussion, Friday on Perspectives: The Weekly Edition at 7 and 11pm ET / 8pm PT. In the meantime, take part in the discussion on Facebook.

Fr. Edmund Lo, SJ

Pope Francis invites us to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, that the ecclesial community might welcome the desires and doubts of those young people who feel a call to serve Christ’s mission in the priesthood and religious life.
