This Tuesday and Wednesday, Salt + Light Television brings you Canada’s first-ever live webcasts of episcopal ordinations. (Correction: This is an English-language first in Canada--our friends at ECDQ.tv streamed the ordination of Quebec City Auxiliary Bishops Paul Lortie and Gérald Cyprien Lacroix in May.)
We begin at St. Peter’s Cathedral in London, Ontario, where Fr. William McGrattan, former rector of St. Peter’s Seminary, will be ordained as Toronto’s newest Auxiliary Bishop. Those who have never seen an episcopal ordination would do well to watch Mary Rose Bacani’s conversation with the bishop-elect, who explains the unique elements of this special liturgy. He also shares his personal account of how he learned that the Pope had chosen him.
The interview will also air immediately before the Ordination Mass. For those unable to attend in London, S+L will stream the event live, exclusively online here. Our web coverage begins at 2:50 pm (all times ET), while the Mass starts at 3:00 pm. The ordination will then be televised Saturday at 8:00 pm, followed by encore presentations Sunday at 12:30 am & 9:00 am.
Return to the blog at this time tomorrow, as we’ll bring you my interview with Fr. Vincent Nguyen, who will also be ordained this week as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Toronto. We’ll live stream that celebration, as well, beginning Wednesday at 2:50 pm (ET) right here. Bishop Nguyen’s ordination will be televised this Sunday at 8:30 pm with encore presentations on Monday, January 18th at 1:00am & 7:30am.
Visit ordinations.saltandlighttv.org for the live stream and full details.
