Nothing More Beautiful: The Church We Believe in Is One

Matthew Harrison

Friday, October 29, 2010

You could call it Latin lessons with Edmonton's Archbishop Richard Smith.
Credo Ecclesiam unam, sanctam, catholicam et apostolicam.  Its translation would perhaps be best rendered as “we profess the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.”
Credo Ecclesiam means that we accept and profess that the Church is a work of God, that it is part of his saving plan for the world.  God intends the Church and has created it by the missions of his Son and Holy Spirit in history.
Those words are taken from the Archbishop's catechesis in the premiere episode this season of Nothing More Beautiful.
As many viewers know, Nothing More Beautiful is an initiative of the Archdiocese of Edmonton.  It's a five year series of catechesis and witness talks aimed at renewing the faithful's relationship with Christ.  You can see the first installment of this third year this Saturday on Salt + Light.  The over-arching theme of this year is "The Beauty of Life in Communion."  And the focus of this particular episode is "The Church We Believe in is One."
Archbishop Smith explains this by highlighting elements of our beliefs found in the Nicene Creed and explaining the Church in God's plan of salvation.  As he discusses the Church's oneness, he also explains how this oneness can practically influence our daily lives.
The witness talk is given by Julien Hammond.  He's the director of the Archdiocese of Edmonton's Office of Evangelization & Catechesis.  He also has a great love for ecumenism, and explains how this has played out in his life.
Join us on Saturday, October 30th at 8:00pm ET or on Tuesday, November 2nd, also at 8:00pm ET, for Nothing More Beautiful: The Church We Believe in Is One.
