Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, speaks at the World Meeting of Families

2018 World Meeting of Families in Dublin - Day 4

In this fourth and final day of meetings, the Ballsbridge RDS hosted another round of debates and workshops, including one presided over by Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus entitled "The Family as an Agent of Peace in a Turbulent World".
Quoting the Holy Father, Anderson reiterated that peace is "a blessing to be obtained, or as St Augustine said in the City of God, a tranquility of order obtained by the proportionate disposition of the members of society."
In the afternoon, during another conference, Cardinal Mario Zenari, apostolic nuncio to Syria, spoke about the dramatic situation in the Middle East. The cardinal declared that the family of Nazareth persecuted and taking refuge in Egypt is the icon of so many Syrian families. About half of the population has been forced to leave their houses and villages. There are 6.1 million people internally displaced, he said, and 5.6 million refugees in the countries around Syria. Cardinal Zenari also noted that Syrian refugees are a quarter of all the refugees in the world.
The Family Arena schedule alternated between moments of entertainment, such as Celtic music in the morning, and the testimonies of different families, before the usual Eucharistic celebration at 4.30 pm.
As the time gets closer, obviously, there is more and more focus on the imminent arrival of the pope, scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10:30 am, local time. The Holy Father will go to the Áras an Uachtaráin (the Presidential Residence) at 11:15 am for the welcoming ceremony. Afterwards, he will pay a courtesy visit to the President and then transfer to Dublin Castle. There Pope Francis will meet authorities, civil society, and the diplomatic corps.
In the afternoon, the Holy Father will go to St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral, and then he will make a private visit to a centre for homeless families. The last appointment of the day will be also the most important one: attending the Festival of Families at Croke Park.
82,000 people are expected to fill the biggest stadium in Ireland, an imposing crowd to welcome a pope on the island, 39 years after John Paul II.

Join us tomorrow for our full coverage of the event. We will begin at 1:30 pm ET with a summary of the pope's morning activities and go LIVE to Croke Park at 2:30 pm ET with live commentary by Father Thomas Rosica, CSB. You can watch us on cable TV or through our WMOF webpage.
