Shorty at Forty

haircollage.jpgIt's the most recognizable pony tail on Salt + Light, and now it's gone!
To celebrate the big 4-0 Salt + Light's Pedro Guevara Mann did something he hasn't done since 1996 -- cut his hair!
No, it wasn't some kind of act of rebellion to mark his 40th birthday (well, maybe it was), but the core motivation factor was a good cause. Pedro was doing it for Sharelife. Sharelife is the charitable outreach of the Archdiocese of Toronto that provides millions of dollars to 33 agencies and helps well over a quarter of a million people every year. Sharelife helps summer kids camps, marriage counseling services, even St. Augustine's Seminary -- their work is crucial to the life of our Archdiocese.
Pedro joined with Katheryn Trainor, a cantor at St. Michael’s Cathedral who you may recognize from Lectio Divina and Daily Mass seen on Salt + Light, to raise between three and four thousand dollars for Sharelife! In addition to the dollars and cents, their hair will also be donated to make wigs for kids with cancer. Congratulations to the both of them!
So at a small Toronto establishment, Saturday afternoon, friends and family gathered for "Hair 4 Life." Despite Pedro's stalling, under the steady buzzer-armed hand of Sharelife's Tim Lee Loy, and with assistance from family (including Pedro's two boys), many locks were snipped and one head shaved cleaned! Don't be shocked if you see a very bald Pedro Guevara Mann on Salt + Light in the future. It's the same Pedro, just a little more streamlined!
Happy Birthday, and a job well done!
