The family that prays together, stays together

Jenna Murphy

Monday, February 21, 2011

Growing up, my mother would repeat this slogan as if it were her own. That said, I can't deny its truth.
The phrase was originally hatched as the mantra for the Family Rosary Crusade (started by Servant of God Father Patrick Peyton,CSC) . The crusade began in 1942 and the slogan was apparently first broadcast on March 6th 1947 during the radio program Family Theater of the Air.
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Fr. James Phalan, CSC the director of Family Rosary International. The Holy Cross priest taped three programs with us: Witness, with Fr. Rosica, a weekly Perspectives on the Rosary, and the daily Perspectives. His conviction about the importance of praying the Rosary was contagious!
On the daily Perspectives, which you can watch on Monday, February 21st, he spoke specifically about Holy Cross' newest initiative: a virtual chapel; a true online refuge of prayer.  It's called Infinitum, and you can visit it here.  It's quite impressive!  It's also a good way to bring your family together, to pray together.
Which fits perfectly for those of us in Ontario and the other parts of Canada who celebrate Family Day today.  Why not spend some time together praying for the members of our family; in thanksgving, for their needs, their intentions.
A happy Family Day to one and all!
