The Search for Church

Father Chris Valka

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

Usually, when we hear about people searching for Church, it refers to people who are “un-churched.” In other words, that they have not found the Church, God, salvation, etc.
But what if they have? At least, what if they believe in God, go to Church and even love The Church – yet are still searching for the meaning of Church in their lives?
Tonight’s episode of Catholic Focus is a conversation with young people who go to Church, but are still looking for something more. In this episode, we will take a look at why young people, despite the number of other opportunities, choose to spend their free time in Church. What are they looking for? What do they want? And are they really finding the answers to their searching in the Church?
Especially if you are a youth minister, pastor or a parent, consider this episode your market research on not how to make the Church cool, but how to bring it to life in the lives of the youth.
As the interviewer and producer of this program, I was both amazed and inspired by the young people's faith, enthusiasm, clarity and longing for God. Indeed, what these youth want is what we should all want from the Church. But to find that out, you will have to tune in to Salt + Light Television Wednesday night at 7 pm ET (with a Saturday, March 17th 7pm ET repeat).
