This Sunday’s Fantastic Four

Matthew Harrison

Saturday, June 2, 2007

This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, where we Catholics celebrate that great mystery of the faith -- three Divine persons in one! It's been contemplated by Church fathers and saints, it's been debated by philosophers and theologians, it's left many scratching their heads! Not to sound defeatist -- but it is a mystery! We can't fully wrap our human minds around it! Regardless, we can still appreciate and look to the love expressed in that Trinity, and the love that is poured forth upon us.
The saints of our Church have always been wonderful examples of God's love for us. They have lived their lives as best they could to be an instrument to express God's love to all those around them.
This Sunday, the Church will proclaim four more holy men and women as saints:
Blesseds George Preca and Simon of LipnicaGeorge Preca, 1880-1962, a Maltese priest and the founder of the Society of Christian Doctrine M.U.S.E.U.M.. Blessed George Preca will be the first Maltese to be canonized!
Szymon (Simon) of Lipnica, 1439-1482. This 15th century priest was with the Order of Friars Minor.
Blesseds Charles of St. Andrew and Marie-Eugenie de Jesus
Charles of St. Andrew, 1821-1893, was a Dutch priest with the Congregation of the Passion.
Marie-Eugenie de Jesus, 1817-1898, is the French founder of the Institute of Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.
You can tune into Salt + Light Television, on Sunday morning at 3:30am ET to watch Pope Benedict XVI preside over the Trinity Sunday Mass and canonize these four new saints. An encore presentation will be broadcast at 3:30pm ET, and it will air as well in French on Monday night at 8pm ET.
Let us rejoice as we on earth have more holy and loving examples to follow and look to, and intercede on our behave, so that someday, we too may join them in heaven!
And don't forget, this Sunday evening at 8:30pm ET, you can catch the Witness interview with the newly appointed Coadjutor Archbishop-elect of Vancouver Michael Miller. That interview will be followed at 9pm ET by the debut of our new Salt + Light series, Eye on the Church, with host David Naglieri.
