Tonight on Perspectives: How will you "wake up" this Advent?

Jenna Murphy

Friday, December 3, 2010

For many of us, entering into the season of Advent is a tall order. The liturgies throughout this season are rich in imagery and anticipation and the scriptures call us to wait in “joyful hope” but all too often we don’t have the luxury of giving Advent the time it deserves. It seems that once Halloween passes, Christmas descends upon us without warning. Storefront windows are sprayed white, bejeweled artificial trees spring up at every turn; the world is already in Christmas mode and we can’t help but get swept up in it all. Then, when Sunday comes, we sheepishly revert back to “waiting mode” in the barren churches where Christmas has not yet arrived!
So, then, our work is laid out for us: we need to reclaim Advent! We need to re-learn the art of waiting. But how do we do this?
Tune in this week as host Pedro Guevara Mann sits down with Sr. Marie-Paul Curley of the Daughters of St. Paul, Deacon Michael Knox and Fr. Chris Valka as they present us with some helpful tips on entering into the Advent season with purpose, peace and patience.
That’s Perspectives this Friday at 7pm and 11pm Eastern, 8pm Pacific.
