Welcome to S+L’s Weekly News Round-Up. As part of my job in bringing you the latest Catholic news on Perspectives Daily, I come across many interesting stories on a daily basis. Some of them I'll cover on my show and the others I’d like to share with you on this blog. This weekly column is where I’ll point out some of the more interesting news pieces, stories, or videos that I've come across over the past few days! Enjoy!
This past week, like the last, has been all about the Synod. Bishops from all around the world have come to Rome for the month of October to meet with the pope and study how to realign the church and youth. Now into our second week of the four week event, all kinds of videos are surfacing and being shared on social media explaining what a Synod is. I found this one by the Grotto Network pretty funny.
In all seriousness, this Synod is a pretty big deal, especially since this particular meeting of Church leaders deals specifically with the youth. Rome Reports recently put together a pretty good explanation on what a Synod is and puts into context the significance of this particular one.
Since this Synod is primarily focused on youth and vocational discernment, it made sense that youth have had a voice throughout the preparation process and also during the Synod. Last week, S+L's own Julian Paparella was interviewed by Vatican News on his role at the Synod as one of the attending Youth Auditors. They talked to Julian about what his hopes and expectations are for the event. You can listen to the entire interview here.
Here also is another video from #SYNOD2018 that gives some insight on what young people today are looking for from the Church.
If you haven't seen it already, this past Wednesday, the pope released his monthly prayer intention for October. This month, he's asking us to join him in praying the rosary every day to fight against the power of evil and to protect the Church. Have a look.
Now, it isn't only young adults and bishops making their way to Rome. Apparently, a dog who completed the famous walking pilgrimage, the Camino de Santiago, also made a pilgrimage to Rome (with his owner) to hopefully meet the pope! Check out the story below.
Lastly today, I thought I might share this story: Bishop Robert Barron, who incidentally is at the Synod in Rome, is making quite the splash online on the website Reddit with his  "Ask Me Anything, I'm a Catholic Bishop Who Love Dialoguing with Atheists" page.
Bishop Barron is personally responding to the questions and comments about Catholicism. At the moment, there are well over 3000 comments, and it's still growing rapidly. Talk about dialoguing on the digital continent!
Well, that's all that I have for you this Friday afternoon. I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you. Be sure to check back with us next Friday for more.
Also, be sure to catch all the latest Catholic news and stories from around the world on Perspectives Daily. The show airs on the network Monday to Friday at 7pm ET or you can catch the latest episodes online here.
We'll see you next week.
