An expression we know all too well
“The family that prays together, stays together” has been heard and uttered  by everyone and their brother in both the Catholic and Protestant communities. But do you know where that phrase even came from?
Venerable Patrick Peyton is the man behind that powerful statement. He is known as the “rosary priest” or “Hollywood priest” because of his love for prayer and his creativity in evangelizing through media streams like print, film, radio, and television.  From rosary rallies to films produced in Family Theatre Productions and everything in between, Father Peyton used every avenue to bring souls and families to Christ. He knew just how important the family as the domestic church was in spreading the Good News, because faith in action should start at home.

What you can expect when you visit
  • Walk with Mary. People can visit different statues of Mary on the museum campus. You can use that time in quiet prayer, invoking the intercession of Our Lady as you walk through the picturesque garden. You can also choose a spot and have a picnic with your loved ones in the midst of beautiful nature and fresh air.
  • Check out the Mary Garden Contest. Whether or not you have a green thumb, you’ll appreciate participants’ creativity in setting up their gardens.  Find out more at the Museum of Family Prayer’s webpage.
  • Mass, Rosary, Adoration, Reconciliation. What museum dedicated to prayer would be complete without the Sacraments? Check out their schedule for more details. (Aside from receiving Jesus in the Eucharist, you may also be delighted to know that their homilists give really great homilies! So attend Mass there if you can.)
  • Family Room. Whether it’s for prayer or play, the family room is just one of many spots in the museum where you can spend quality time with your family. Fun Fact: Unlike other museums, the Museum of Family Prayer actually encourages parents to stay with their children so that they can learn and grow together as a family throughout the visit.
  • Interactive tours. Cutting edge technology and interactive exhibits pull you into the life of Father Patrick Peyton and the ways his legacy continues in Holy Cross Family Ministries.

Hope to families of different circumstances
It’s no secret that the family is under attack. Just look at how many marriages dissolve in divorce or separation, or how many teens and young adults end up leaving the Church. Whether your entire family is actively pursuing the faith or you’re struggling to let your loved ones know Jesus, this is a place for you. Venerable Patrick Peyton knew how powerful prayer was, not just for our individual walks with the Lord  but also in strengthening and even reviving the family unit.
So bring your parents, sisters, brothers, and kids to this life-giving museum. There’s something here for everyone!

How to get there
You can find the Museum of Family Prayer in Easton, Massachusetts, on Stonehill College’s Campus, about 20 minutes south of Boston. If you live in the U.S. or don’t mind the travel there, do make the trip to the museum. It’s such a unique experience for you and your family. For our dear readers in Canada and everywhere else, we have good news for you! You can still learn more about the story behind the Museum of Family Prayer in our latest episode of Historia Vitae: Treasures of Our Faith, airing this Sunday, August 29 at 8:30 pm ET / 5:30 pm PT.
