Blessed Sister Dulce
Maria Rita de Souza Pontes was born in 1914 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. From a young age she showed a profound spirit of charity. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God at the age of eighteen taking the name Dulce after her mother. There she went on to found the Charitable Works Foundation of Sister Dulce, one of the largest and most respected charitable organizations in Brazil. She was noted for the perseverance and the effort with which she cared for the sick. She was recently named the most admired woman in the history of Brazil.
