By François Gloutnay, editor of Catholic media blog Nouvelles de l'ACPC.

Many articles in the Canadian and international press on the canonization of Brother André. Here are some excerpts.

The Toronto Star columnist Rosie DiManno writes: "Alfred Bessette is now St. André. With upwards of 5,000 Canadians in St. Peter’s Square to witness the event, the Holy Cross brother from Montreal was formally canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in a ritualistic outdoor ceremony Sunday morning."

An article from Andy Riga (Montreal Gazette) was published by the Nanaimo Daily News. "For the estimated 5,000 people here to celebrate Brother Andre's sainthood, Sunday's event was a long time coming. His devotees have been pressing the church for canonization since 1937, the year Brother Andre died."

"Quebec's blue-and-white, fleur-de-lis flag was also out in force in St. Peter's Square in support of Brother Andre, a Canadian who legend says healed thousands of sick who prayed with him at his Montreal oratory." USA Today publishes a story on the six men and women who were canonized this weekend.
