What is so unique about Irish Christianity? And what on earth is a "pattern day"?
In just 11 days, the World Meeting of Families will begin in Dublin, Ireland. Salt + Light's very own Francis Denis and Matteo Ciofi will be on the ground keeping us up-to-date with all the latest news and stories as the event unfolds.
But this won't be the first international Catholic event that we've covered in Dublin. In 2012, Dublin was host to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress. While we were there, we took the opportunity to look around at some of the popular pilgrimage sites in this country which has had a Christian presence for over 1500 years.
In this episode of Catholic Focus, Kris Dmytrenko and Sebastian Gomes take you to:
Glendalough, County Wicklow
St. Canice Cathedral, Kilkenny, County Kilkenny
Jerpoint Abbey, County Kilkenny
St. Patrick Cathedral, Dublin
Moone High Cross, County Kildare
And back in the studio, Kris sits down with guests Dr. Ann Dooley and Fr. John Reddy, CSB, and hears more about other sites, such as the famous Croagh Patrick and Lough Derg, billed as "the toughest pilgrimage in Europe, if not the whole Christian world." And they discuss "pattern days" and what is so special about Celtic spirituality.
