Pope Benedict's offered a fond reflection on World Youth Day at his weekly Angelus address. Click HERE for that.
You'll note that in the Zenit translation, after the address, in Italian, the Holy Father said:
I greet all those who are vacationing now, wishing them serene days of profitable physical and spiritual leisure. However, I do not forget those who cannot benefit from a time of rest and vacation: My thoughts turn to the sick in hospitals and nursing homes, to those in prison, to the elderly, to those who are alone, and those who are passing the summer in the heat of the city. To all of you I assure my affectionate nearness and a remembrance in my prayer.
Very thoughtful of Pope Benedict to remember this, we often forget that some people are unable to take time to holiday for those reasons, and for others as well.
The Holy Father, of course, began a holiday today. Until August 11th, he'll be vacationing at the seminary in the German speaking mountain town of Bressanone, in the Italian province of Alto-Adige. (above is a photo of the Pontiff being greeted by clergy, civic authorities and residents)
bxvi-bress3.jpgThough it's his first visit to the town as Pope, he has vacationed there many times. In fact, he wrote part of his book Jesus of Nazareth there in the year 2000, and the interviews that became The Ratzinger Report (published in 1987) were conducted there as well.
Pope Benedict will be joined by his brother, Fr. Georg Ratzinger, from Bavaria in Germany, and a few staff members from the seminary. A well known fan of cats (have you seen the children's book Joseph and Chico: The Life of Pope Benedict XVI as Told By a Cat), the Holy Father will also have the seminary kitty keeping him company: a black cat named Milly!
