As the eyes of the world turn to Vancouver to see who will fly higher, finish with the fastest time, break the most records and win the most medals, the eyes of Salt+Light have turned to the Vancouver Olympics to see how the Church is rising to this unprecedented occasion.
VANCOUVER-OLYMPICSIt turns out the entire Christian community of Vancouver has come together to find uniquely Christian ways to welcome the world to their city and capitalize on the spirit of friendship that surrounds the games to make connections and potentially touch hearts.
More Than Gold is an ecumenical organization that has been present in every Olympic city for the past 15 years. In Vancouver 15 Christian denominations have come together to practice what they're calling "Radical Hospitality."
One of More Than Gold's board members is also part of the multi-faith team working with the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee to provide chaplaincy services in the two Athletes' Villages. We spoke to him to find out why chaplaincy services are considered essential in an Olympic village.
If you missed Catholic Focus: Higher, Faster, Stronger on Wednesday looking at what More Than Gold is doing to welcome Olympic visitors to Vancouver and how the Archdiocese of Vancouver is contributing to this initiative, you can catch an encore presentation this Saturday, February 13th at 7:00pm ET/4:00pm PT.
