Every Fall, S+L covers the CCCB Plenary Assembly, the bishops' national gathering in Cornwall, Ontario. This year, though, it turns out that we were also a topic of their discussions.
On November 19th, CCCB President Archbishop James Weisgerber wrote Fr. Thomas Rosica, CSB to congratulate S+L for its many accomplishments since its 2003 inception. Archbishop Weisgerber informed S+L's CEO that the episcopal conference unanimously passed the following resolution in Cornwall:
“That the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops express to Salt + Light Television sincere congratulations and gratitude for outstanding work in the Catholic media and for the quality of its programming.”
The Archbishop of Winnipeg added that S+L "is to be commended for its efforts both to proclaim Jesus Christ and make him known."
Responding to the bishops' encouragement, Fr. Rosica said that the S+L team was "surprised and truly delighted with such an unexpected, wonderful letter of gratitude and praise from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops."
"I shared the letter with our entire staff last Friday," he added. "We celebrated a mass of thanksgiving for the graces and blessings we have received over the past six years."
"Salt and Light Television is at the service of the entire Church in Canada," Fr. Rosica affirmed. "And we are very grateful that so many bishops now view us as an instrument of the New Evangelization in this country."
