– Salt + Light will debut a new documentar
y on Canada’s newest seminary next week on its digital television network and website.
Created in partnership with the Archdiocese of Edmonton, Put Out Into the Deep
is a half-hour documentary that celebrates the construction of the new St. Joseph Seminary. It is the first seminary campus built in Canada since the 1950s, when the previous version of St. Joseph’s was completed. Along with striking footage of the grounds and architecture, Put Out Into the Deep tells the story of the new seminary through the voices of those most closely involved in the project, and introduces viewers to three young seminarians who followed very different paths to the seminary doors.
"Salt + Light considers St. Joseph's Seminary to be one of the most hopeful signs of the Church in Canada in recent decades,” said Fr. Thomas Rosica
, CEO of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation. “We are privileged and blessed to be so closely associated with the Archdiocese of Edmonton on this and so many other projects that clearly announce the New Evangelization and a culture of vocations in our country today. May God bless all those who made this new facility for the formation of priests a brilliant reality.”
“I hope that we were able to convey a sense of the seminary life, cultivated by its rector and staff,” said writer/director Kris Dmytrenko
. “Its students, however, are the seminary's best ambassadors. While the Gospel is shown in the building's art and architecture, it's more tangibly revealed in the vocation stories of the seminarians."
Father Shayne Craig, Rector of St. Joseph Seminary
was pleased with the way
Salt + Light told the story.
“The seminary, situated in its relationship to the past, to the Church, to our life here in Western Canada – open to the past, present and future – this is brought out by the filmmakers in a singular way,” said Fr. Craig.
