Fr. Allan MacDonald General Superior, Companions of the Cross
Fr. Allan MacDonald was born in Montreal on December 11, 1966 and raised in St. Raphael’s, Ontario. After attending local schools he studied at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS, graduating in 1989 with an honours degree in Canadian History. He then entered St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall on May 14, 1994. After serving in the diocese for 7 years as a parish priest, high school chaplain and a director of youth and vocations, he discerned the Lord’s call to join the Companions of the Cross in 2001.
In January 1996, he was asked by his diocesan bishop to spend some time in Ottawa with the Companions of the Cross to see how they lived and ministered together. In 2001, he applied for and received a leave of absence from his home diocese to discern a call to formally join the Companions of the Cross. He currently serves as the General Superior of the Companions of the Cross. Prior to his election as General Superior, he has served as a member of the Companions of the Cross Formation Team, the Chaplain at York University in Toronto, Pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in Halifax, and Vocations and Admissions Director for the Companions. He is a well-known preacher at many parish missions and retreats.
