Fr. Matthew Gworek Priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford, Connecticut
Fr. Matthew Gworek is a priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford, Connecticut. Raised in Southington, Connecticut, he graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Education in 2010 having played the euphonium and been given the opportunity to perform with different ensembles across the county. He grew up in a strong Catholic family and was inspired by the priests in his hometown and later at college. He entered the seminary and began his studies for the priesthood at Theological College, the national seminary led by the Sulpician priests at the Catholic University of America.
Ordained to the priesthood in May 2016, he was assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Mary’s Church in Branford, Connecticut and served that community in his first priestly assignment. He later moved to Hamden, Connecticut where he was Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and Catholic Chaplain at Quinnipac University.
In June 2018, he was sent by his Archbishop to begin a six-month internship in Catholic Media at the Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation. While with us, he was involved in all aspects of our media ministry and appeared often on television in various programs and daily news updates. Upon completion of his internship in January 2019, he was assigned to be Secretary to Archbishop Leonard Blair of the Archdiocese of Hartford. Currently in that key position, Fr. Matthew put to good use his media formation and experience at Salt and Light Television. He left us all with wonderful memories and his friendship with us at Salt and Light is a blessing to each member of our staff, as well as to the many viewers who enjoyed his contribution over the past months.
This interview took place in our Salt and Light studio on the eve of Fr. Matt’s departure to Connecticut, on January 29, 2019.
