Fr. Teshome Fikre Woldetensae was born in the Southern Region of Ethiopia on June 10, 1972. After his elementary education, he entered the minor seminary in the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa in 1987. He pursued advanced studies in Philosophy and Theology studies at Franciscan Institute of philosophy and Theology and received his basic degree in theology from Rome’s Pontifical Urbaniana University before his ordination to the priesthood for the Ethiopian Rite in Addis Ababa in 1998. After several years in parish work, he returned to Rome to pursue a Licentiate and Doctoral Degree in Canon Law the Pontifical Lateran University. “Abba” Teshome, as he is called in his native country, has served as Vicar General and Secretary General of the Emdibir Eparchy and visiting professor at the Capuchin Franciscan Institute of Philosophy and Theology. He is also Judicial Vicar for the Inter-Eparchial Tribunal in the Ethiopian Rite Metropolitan Church of Addis Ababa. He is currently Deputy Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Ethiopia and Director of the Ethiopian National Pastoral Commission.
