Sr. Rosemary McDonald
Sunday, April 2, 2017 - Sr. Rosemary MacDonald has been a member of the Sisters of St. Martha of Prince Edward Island for 33 years. Her ministries focused in the field of health care which include Nursing Supervisor, Administrator, Nursing Professor and Clinical Ethicist. Currently she is Leader of her congregation which celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2016. The congregation was founded in 1916 by Bishop Henry O’Leary who saw that the work of the church required expansion in social, educational and spiritual ways. He envisioned that a Congregation of religious women, especially devoted to these needs in Prince Edward Island would address some of his concerns. The Sisters of St. Martha are noted as pioneers in health care, education and social services in PEI. Over the years the sisters’ ministries broadened as they responded to and created new works where their services were needed and valued thus extending into other parts of Canada, the United States and Latin America. Currently, their charism of simplicity, attentiveness and hospitality has further expanded to include the diversity of challenges in the care for the earth, ‘our common home’.
